How to get from Marco Polo Airport to Venice and the Islands

Marco Polo Airport is the air gateway of Venice and the whole of northeastern Italy. It is located in the northeastern suburb of Venice Tessera, 12 km north of the historic city center.

Full name of the airport: Aeroporto di Venezia Marco Polo, Venice Marco Polo International Airport.

It is not easy to get from the airport terminal to the historic part of Venice, as the city stands on canals. There are several ways to reach the city:

  • on an airbus;
  • in a cab;
  • by boat;
  • with a shuttle.

All land transportation only goes as far as Santa Lucia Station and Piazzale Roma. From there you have to walk or take a vaporetto, so if you have small children or inconvenient luggage, consider water transportation.

For those traveling light, the fastest and cheapest is the bus or ATVO airbus.
