Tarragona - Barcelona: how to get there on your own

Tarragona is an ancient Spanish port city in Catalonia. It is connected to Barcelona, the capital of the autonomous community, by a 98 km long highway and railroad. It takes about an hour and a half to get from Barcelona to Tarragona for no more than 10 €.

Train Barcelona — Tarragona

The easiest way to get to Tarragona is by rail: more than 50 trains run daily between the cities at intervals of 5 to 25 minutes.

From Barcelona-Sants train station, Tarragona can be reached by trains of the Spanish state rail network Renfe. Regional express trains are also available at Estació de França and Passeig de Gracia stations.

In Tarragona, the Camp de Tarragona train station is located 10 minutes from the historic part of the city. When leaving the station you have to go to the right.

Bus Barcelona — Tarragona

Alsa buses run from the center of Barcelona to Tarragona six times a day. The route starts at Barcelona’s northern station, Barcelona (Nord). Once a day, the bus stops at Barcelona (Sants) station on the way.

In Tarragona, the bus stops at the Estació de Autobusos de Tarragona bus station. It is a short walk from Tarragona’s central boulevard, Rambla Nova.

  • The first bus leaves at 9:00 and the last bus leaves at 22:00.
  • A one-way ticket costs €9.05.

  • Travel time is between 1 hour 20 minutes and 1 hour 45 minutes, depending on whether the bus makes a stop in Vilafranca del Penedes.

Bus Barcelona Airport El Prat — Tarragona

Transfers between Barcelona Airport and Tarragona are operated by bus company BusPlana. Travel time is 1 hour and 20 minutes.

You can leave the airport from Terminal 1, where scheduled flights arrive. The stop is located on the 0 floor, Arrivals area. A free shuttle runs between Terminals 1 and 2 of the airport.
